Habitation of the largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca, can be traced as far back as the Paleolithic period with the discovery of ancient burial chambers and other traces of habitation. In 123 BC the island came under Roman rule and was administered by Quintus Caecilius Metellus Balearicus, during which time the island thrived. The economy was largely fuelled by salt mining, viticulture and olive cultivation and the Roman’s valued the Mallorcan soldiers for their skill with the sling. The island paradise is filled with tourists every year, usually around 10 million tourists join the local population of some 781 600 people.

Instead of experiencing an aquarium the old-fashioned way, why not skip the long lines, dive in and enjoy an underwater experience at Palma Aquarium. Here you will be able to admire over 700 species of sea creatures such as coral, enormous sea turtles, stingrays, clownfish, hammerhead sharks as well as marvel at the deepest shark tank in Europe. This 28-foot monolith gives you the opportunity to view different types of sharks up close as they lurk in their underwater tunnel. Satisfied with one of the many available Mallorca holiday apartments, head over to the town of Manacor and find out how the world’s famous Mallorca pearls are made. The Mallorca Pearl Factory is one of the island’s most popular attractions. Explore the underground world of the Cavern of the Dragon when you are done. While traversing the 1.5-mile long, 82-foot high cave you will take a boat ride on one of the world’s largest underground lakes, Lake Martel. Mallorca’s sandy beaches, crystal seas, charming towns and wondrous natural surroundings make it the perfect island getaway or cruise ship stopover for one and all.
