Fuerteventura is a volcanic island in the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, so there are not so many green areas here, but rather an exciting volcanic landscape and the wild azure blue ocean Turquoise waves Perfect for surfers, kiters and windsurfers. Be sure to pack sunscreen in your luggage. What's really cool is that there are no poisonous insects or mosquitoes here, as there is almost no vegetation. Instead, you have dolphins and sea turtles here and maybe, if you're lucky, you might even spot a sperm whale. And endless white sandy beaches where you can simply switch off.

Highligts

Many experiences such as a safari tour, volcano hikes or a guided snorkeling experience in the sea, but also a surfing and sailing course can be done anywhere here.

Hidden gems

Going on vacation in autumn is good because there aren't so many tourists around anymore

Destination recommendation

Beautiful island in paradise with turquoise colored sea, fantastically beautiful

Pros

Top room service

there is always something going on in the hotel in the evening, whether dancing or a fun evening at the bar, with live music

Cons

Lunch and dinner some dishes take some getting used to

Telephone costs are high

Fans of water sports

We spent a week's sun vacation on Fuerteventura in February. We had an Airbnb in the town of Costa Calma, which we can highly recommend. You need a car to get around the island, but you can rent one at a reasonable price. The island is great for nature lovers, hikers, divers, cyclists and surfers. There are many delicious cafés and restaurants, so you are well catered for. I can highly recommend a trip to Fuerteventura to anyone.

Highligts

The warm winter sun is a real highlight. Fuerteventura has great beaches, great food and lots of culture. We enjoyed the great roads for cycling. The island is a paradise for surfers

Hidden gems

Playa de Cofefe on the west side. The fantastic lighthouse in Puerto de la Cruz

I was with my mom in September 2023 for 1 week to relax on the island of Fuerteventura. The landscape is very barren, not much green. The weather in September is very warm, there was a light wind, which was very relaxing and refreshing. It is very quiet there and therefore suitable for relaxing. The people are very friendly. The sea is wonderful to swim in because of the temperature. I can recommend it!

We have been to Fuerteventura very often. We are actually always there with our motorhome and then for several months. We like the north of the island best, it is still so natural and there is less tourism than in the south. Our favorite place is El Cotillo and the secluded beaches on the west coast. You can eat well in El Cotillo at BOAB. They serve dishes from Africa, but also very good Dürüm. If we were on the island again with our motorhome, I would do everything the same as before. The countless rental cars that you can pick up at the airport mean that getting around is definitely easy.

Highligts

You can experience a lot, go on various tours by boat or off-road vehicle. You can hike a lot. You can go partying in the city in the evening. You can go out for a good meal.

Hidden gems

The entire west coast is an insider tip, the village of El Cotillo in the north is our favorite place.

Destination recommendation

The island has a very specific energy and can give you so much.

Pros

Fuerteventura is a very flat and dry island, but if you look closely, you will see much more than just that.

Cons

The occasional poor water supply is a problem.

We were in Playa de Esquinzo, from where we explored the island with e-scooters and a rented car. Moro Jable the lighthouse, the small town perfect for shopping and strolling and the beach an absolute paradise. Free parrots and chipmunks live nearby, simply unique.

Highligts

The sea is the absolute highlight everywhere the beaches are super beautiful and the sea is turquoise

Hidden gems

Moro Jable at the lighthouse is fantastically beautiful, at high tide an absolute warning.

Destination recommendation

Mega beautiful sea, fantastic landscapes, always the best weather.

Partly very windy
