I traveled to Andalusia with friends in March. We really saw a lot of the region from Málaga to Gibraltar and Cadíz and really enjoyed our road trip. Unfortunately, it has to be said that without a rental car, getting around is rather difficult.
We liked the center of Málaga the least, I would highly recommend exploring the region individually according to your own interests.
Highligts
In Andalusia, one highlight follows the next: from Cadíz to Vejer, Tarifa and Algorobo, there are many beautiful places to discover. You can watch whales in Tarifa and Barbary apes in Gibtaltar. But you can also retreat to a small Andalusian village. And eat very well too!
Hidden gems
My personal insider tip is the town of Cadíz, which is rather unknown in Germany. Situated on a headland, you can observe Andalusian life here without attracting too much attention.
Destination recommendation
Andalusia is perfect for a round trip, during which you can discover the subtle differences in this beautiful region of Spain
Pros
Great, authentic cuisine
Diverse excursion options
Cons
Weak infrastructure away from the car
Best for
Art and culture lovers

Andalusia is impressive. Everyone will find something here. Almost every major city has centuries-old historical buildings that tell an enormous story. For example, the cathedral of Córdoba, which has experienced Muslim and Christian influences, the Nasrid palace of the Alhambra in Granada, an absolute highlight to visit. However, you have to book entry several weeks in advance with an exact time slot. Unfortunately, this limits your flexibility a little during your vacation and you have to plan your trip well in advance. Despite everything, it was an absolutely well-rounded, eventful vacation that I can highly recommend.
Highligts
Culture without end: Alhambra in Granada, the cathedral in Córdoba and Cádiz or the Alcazaba in Malaga
Hidden gems
Walk the Caminito del Rey. Be sure to book well in advance
Destination recommendation
Culture, great scenery, delicious food - there's something for everyone here
Pros
Breathtaking historical buildings in Granada, Sebilla and Córdoba
Impressive landscapes while walking the Caminito del Rey
Cons
Very crowded with tourists even in May
You have to book tickets weeks or months in advance e.g. Nasrid Palaces

Málaga is a fascinating destination with a rich history, cultural sights and delicious cuisine. The Alcazaba and the Picasso Museum are cultural highlights. The El Palo district offers authentic culinary experiences. However, you should be prepared for crowds of tourists and high temperatures in summer. Traffic in the city center is often hectic and parking spaces are scarce. Nevertheless, Málaga offers a great mix of culture, relaxation and culinary delights.
Highligts
During my stay in Málaga, I was impressed by the breathtaking views from the Alcazaba and the Roman theater, which offered a deep insight into the history of the city. I found the Picasso Museum particularly fascinating, where I was able to admire the works of the famous artist in his home town. The lively atmosphere and the delicious tapas in the alleyways of the old town gave me unforgettable culinary experiences. La Malagueta beach was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the Spanish sun.
Hidden gems
An insider tip for Málaga is to visit the El Palo district, off the beaten tourist track. Here you will find authentic fish restaurants serving fresh espeto (grilled sardines) right on the beach. Especially in the evening, you can enjoy local life in a relaxed atmosphere.
Destination recommendation
A recommended destination in Málaga is the La Concepción botanical garden. This historic garden, which was created in the 19th century, offers an impressive collection of exotic plants and beautiful walking paths. Here you can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and discover the diverse flora and fauna of Andalusia.
Pros
Cultural and historical sights
Beautiful beaches
Cons
Crowds of tourists
Traffic and parking
