The adjoining cathedral, formerly the scene of several royal coronations, combines elements of the Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque styles. Steeped in history and well worth a visit is the Kazimierz Jewish Quarter, laid out in the mid-14th century to resettle Jews. A large number of the buildings are still preserved and serve as reminders of the atrocities committed against the Jews, especially during the Third Reich.
