My stay in Rome was a journey through history, accompanied by culinary highlights. The Colosseum made a deep impression on me as an impressive example of Roman architecture and history. Places like St. Peter's Basilica and the Spanish Steps were impressive, but a little overcrowded, which detracted slightly from the overall experience. The Trastevere district is particularly noteworthy - with its narrow streets and picturesque squares, it gave a distinctive, local feel. I was able to try traditional Roman dishes in a small family restaurant, and the homemade pasta and local wine made for an unforgettable experience. The Vatican Museums impressed with their impressive art collection, but the crowds were enormous. The recommendation to book tickets in advance proved to be extremely useful. The Trevi Fountain was a little disappointing, not as romantic as expected due to construction work and crowds. Despite the many tourists, I found the "true essence" of Rome in hidden corners and charming neighborhoods. If you visit the city, you should explore the well-known places early on and then delve off the beaten track into the city's hidden gems. And the pizza is simply incomparable.

Highligts

On my trip to Rome, I was particularly impressed by the Colosseum. The ancient architecture and the historic atmosphere of the amphitheater created an unforgettable experience for me.

Hidden gems

In Rome, I was particularly impressed by the Trastevere district. Away from the usual tourist routes, I discovered charming alleyways and enjoyed the delicious local cuisine in the authentic restaurants.

Destination recommendation

Yes, in my opinion you have to have been to Rome once in your life.

We were in Rome for 2 nights. We spent the first night in our camper and the second night in a hotel near the Colosseum. In summary, our vacation in Rome was simply fantastic! The city has so many impressive sights to offer, from the ancient ruins of the Colosseum (which was also our highlight) and the Roman Forum to the imposing St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. We spent our days sightseeing and visiting museums and were richly rewarded for it. And the food! The Italian cuisine simply blew us away. From delicious pasta and pizza to fresh fish and delicious gelato - everyone really gets their money's worth in Rome. We went out for dinner in a pizzeria in the city center on both evenings. We explored everything on foot. But there is also a metro network. You can also hire bicycles or e-scooters. Next time we would not travel by car. We were warned several times that crime is very high in terms of theft from vehicles. That's why we booked a paid parking space. This problem does not arise if you arrive by plane. Nevertheless, we can hardly wait to return and discover more of this fascinating city.

Highligts

Sightseeing e.g. Collosseum, Pantheon etc.

Hidden gems

Try the house wines in the restaurants. They are usually very tasty and cheaper than the card wines.

Destination recommendation

Roman history comes alive when you look at all the ancient buildings.

Pros

Places of interest

Culture

Cons

Lots of garbage around Rome

Cars should not be left unguarded (crime)

My stay in Rome was an impressive journey through antiquity. Although the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica were the sights with the most tourists, they were also the most beautiful. The Trastevere district was a culinary highlight. The narrow streets not only offered picturesque photo opportunities, but also authentic Italian cuisine. The Vatican Museums impressed with their art treasures, but the crowds were overwhelming. My advice would be to book your tickets early. The Trevi Fountain, during its renovation, unfortunately lost some of its romance, but the centuries-old Pantheon with its impressive dome and the "Piazza Navona" made up for this failure. Rome is a city of contrasts - between ancient ruins and vibrant culture. To fully enjoy its charm, I recommend visiting the tourist hotspots strategically and getting lost in the charming side streets. Otherwise you will run into a stream of tourists. However, I would recommend the city of Rome 100%. You have to have been there once in your life.

Highligts

An impressive travel highlight in Rome is the Colosseum. The ancient amphitheater structure fascinated me with its history and architecture.

Hidden gems

My personal insider tip for Rome is the Trastevere district. There were few tourists and lots of delicious restaurants.

Destination recommendation

I recommend Rome because Rome is one of the most beautiful cities I know

Pros

Many historical sights

Delicious food

Cons

Many tourists

Everything in the center is very expensive

I visited Rome in the summer and it was a really great trip. I was particularly impressed by all the places steeped in history. There are old buildings to look at everywhere. Rome also has lots of little streets to stroll through. You can of course eat very well everywhere, especially if you are a fan of Italian food. However, there are a few tourist spots where you can get ripped off. You should avoid these.

Highligts

There is ancient history to see everywhere, such as the Roman Forum or the Collosseum. There are great neighborhoods for going out and many beautiful little streets for shopping.

Hidden gems

Be sure to stroll through Trastevere and eat something there.

Destination recommendation

There is no other city like it, the history and the people are unique in Rome.

Pros

Lots of choice

Lots of history

Cons

There are tourist traps

Partly expensive

Rome, the capital of Italy, must be visited once in a lifetime. Especially the sights such as the Vatican Museums, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. We traveled to Rome in November and the weather was good, but I would recommend traveling to Rome in September or October. The food is good, especially pasta dishes at Tonnarello. I like pizza better in Germany and the prices are sometimes higher than in Germany.

Highligts

Many places of interest. Good food. Vatican is impressive. Good coffee and ice cream.

Tonarella restaurant. Catacombs of Rome.
