Lake Maggiore, or „Great Lake“ in English, is the second largest lake in Italy, after Lake Garda, and the largest lake in the Swiss canton of Ticino, located on the south side of the Alps mountain range. This location is perfect for lovers of parks, plants, green spaces and gardens as, as well as the spectacularly beautiful lake, the region also boasts a number of lovely gardens growing exotic and rare plant species and Mediterranean vegetation, the most well known of which are the gardens at Isola Madre, Isole di Brissago, and Isola Bella. On the Isola Madre, the beautiful gardens, or the Giardini Botanici dell'Isola Madre, surround an impressive palace and cover an area of eight hectares.
Lake Maggiore Holiday Villas - come and view the beautiful botanical gardens around lake Maggiore
The gardens were arranged in the English style at the beginning of the late 18th century, where a citrus orchard once stood. There are also the Giardini Botanici Villa Taranto, which are located on the western shore of Lake Maggioere in Pallanza, in the north Italian province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossala. The gardens here were established in 1931, opened in 1952 and charge a small admission fee for entrance to visitors. Nature lovers will be thrilled to here that these 16 hectare botanical gardens boast almost 20,000 varieties of plant species, set along 7 km worth of garden paths. The climate at lake Maggiore is perfect for relaxing and calming holidays, as the weather is generally mild, pleasant and Mediterranean-like. In the summer, it is the ideal place to sit back and relax with friends or family, as the hot summer temperatures felt elsewhere in Italy are cooled down by the gentle breezes that blow across the lake's surface.
