I've been to Budapest many times, most recently in March this year. The city simply has so much to offer: Nightlife, culture, nature in a small space. And all at a very affordable price. Public transport is very well developed and you can usually find cheap flights to the city. Culinary delights are also available for everyone here: from langosch and Baumkuchen to Israeli specialties - there is something for everyone. I would definitely recommend a visit to one of the old synagogues!

Highligts

Where to start, Budapest has so much to offer: a lively nightlife, but also many cultural institutions and a mountain to climb on the other side of the river. You should definitely try the langos! And a trip across the Danube past the illuminated parliament is also very worthwhile!

Hidden gems

Ruin bars like Szimpla Kert in the Jewish quarter are a great place to spend the evening. They are very spacious inside and there is a lot to discover

Destination recommendation

I would recommend this destination to anyone who wants to take a cheap city trip (ideally in summer)

Pros

Affordable price level

Good accessibility and public transport

Cons

Sometimes language barriers, but rarely

The capital of Hungary, Budapest, can really compete with the great capitals of Europe. It has beautiful buildings that are all very well preserved. The parliament, which is located on the banks of the Danube, is impressive. But it also has a lot to offer in terms of culture and cuisine. You can find something to eat and drink on every street corner. There is also plenty to do at night. Most of the action takes place on the Pest side, while the other side of the Danube, known as Buda, has a castle that is a great place to sit, have a drink and look out over Pest.

Highligts

The ferry on the Danube is a good tip for your first trip to Budapest. Heroes' Square and the adjacent park are perfect for a stroll. Budapest has beautiful facades and it is fascinating to simply stroll through the streets.

Hidden gems

Streetfood backyard "Karavan" with lots of food trucks and beer tables, Szechenyi Heilbald in Art Nouveau style.

Destination recommendation

A beautifully preserved city that has nothing to hide from the other capitals of Europe!

Pros

Beautiful facades

Good transportation options (public transport & e-scooter)

Cons

Lots of traffic

Positive: Very large selection of sights in the city. Parliament building, Fisherman's Bastion, Chain Bridge, Heroes' Square, St. Stephen's Basilica, Great Market Hall, Matthias Church, Vajdahunyad Castle, and the spa (where we were). Lots of restaurants to eat and drink and also good shopping opportunities. In the evening, it's nice to book a boat tour (we did this via GetYourGuide), with prosecco, which was very good value for money. I highly recommend the parliament building, St. Stephen's Basilica, Chain Bridge, Matthias Church, Fishermen's Bastion, Vajdahunyad Castle and perhaps the market hall. Market hall for the reason that there is a lot to buy there, but there are many of the same things. There are usually only peppers, alcohol, cheese, souvenirs, meat and honey, and lots of stalls selling them. We had delicious food at the Trattoria Pomo D'Oro restaurant. Delicious ice cream at Hiszteria Cremeria Neutral: Had to wait a bit for our bus, but it was fine. We bought the tickets via the BudapestGO app, which worked really well. Negative: Relatively dirty and unfortunately it stinks in some places in the city. You sometimes find people on the street who want to sell you something (fake cell phones) and won't let go of you. Unfortunately, the spa is also not recommendable. There was one passage where only women were allowed to go and one where only men were allowed to go. However, not many people kept to this. Sometimes both men and women went into the men's cabin and sometimes both went into the women's cabin. It was dirty and sandy there. There wasn't much food at the spa either. There were only a few rolls with schnitzel and tomatoes/cucumber/cheese, which were delicious, but we didn't find much else.

Highligts

Really worth seeing is the parliament building MUST HAVE! Then the boat tour, which was also great and included a glass of Prosecco.

Hidden gems

Bitcoin statue for crypto and share enthusiasts

Destination recommendation

It is an old city that has a lot to offer. Lots of food and lots of sights.

Pros

Large city with many sights

Good shopping opportunities

Cons

Many sights that are the same.

Relatively dirty and the city center is a bit smelly and crowded.

It was very nice in itself. I ate lángos, a Hungarian specialty. There was also Georgian food, I ate Georgian dumplings, which also tasted wonderful. The Hungarian food itself was also delicious. I had a goulash soup, but I don't like beef so much, so it wasn't the best soup. At Papi Lángos we ate, who would have thought it, lángos. There were different toppings, but I opted for the classic one. If you go for the classic, you get garlic, cheese and I think sour cream or something. If you go there to eat, make sure you bring a lot of hunger with you as a lángos was the size of a medium pizza. The town looks old, which is also a plus. There were also thermal baths nearby, which were hot and cold, I personally liked the hot and warm ones. You can get to the thermal baths relatively quickly by metro, as you can get off directly in front of the thermal baths.

Highligts

The thermal baths and Hungarian food were my personal highlights. Something like lángos, a traditional dish from Hungary, or the goulash soup were really delicious. It's also highly recommended to go for a walk outside at night, as I think it's even more beautiful there than during the day.

Hidden gems

I don't really have any insiders. Just walk around a bit, because the whole city is beautiful. If you really want to eat lángos, I would go to Papi Langos, because they serve a large portion for very little money.

Destination recommendation

I would recommend this destination for those who enjoy seeing big cities and eating out in restaurants.

Pros

It is beautiful

The food tastes very good

Cons

City is a bit dirty

Is relatively expensive, but that is normal for capital cities

Rent some Budapest Accommodation and Budapest self catering Apartments for a city break like no other

Despite this nickname, Budapest is actually a very singular and unique holiday experience that is very worthy of a visit. Budapest is a major cosmopolitan hub within Hungary, the principal region for national commerce and the centre of the tourism industry in the country.

For these reasons and many more besides, no tourist should leave Budapest off their travel itinerary when planning a trip to the beautiful Hungary. The city is situated in the northern part of the country, with a perfect landscape and natural environment that allows both locals and tourists staying in Budapest accommodation alike to really enjoy their time in Budapest. For example, the city is home to over a thousand thermal springs which are used in the various spas. Many tourists visit the city purely for the pleasure of having their daily aches and pains of soothed by the naturally warm water of the springs. Another European location with warm springs to soothe your aches and pains is Digne-les-Bains Holiday Homes.

Budapest Holiday Lettings - history and culture in one uniquely beautiful location

If you are interested in how these thermal springs were born, you will undoubtedly enjoy a visit to some of the two hundred caves beneath the country. Keen geologists will appreciate and marvel at the sheer power behind the springs and how they have been able to sculpt caves, such as the Pálvölgy Stalactite Cave. The natural world above ground is equally impressive, with lakes offering the perfect environment for fishing and the River Danube carving a meandering path through the country and creating an ideal way to view the sights via a boat cruise. This historic significance and value of several parts of the region, such as Castle Hill, has been recognised through being granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Whilst renting your Budapest holiday rentals, you will enjoy warm sunshine during the summer months and see winters so cold and icy that blasts of magical snowfall are not uncommon. Winter is a wonderful time to visit Budapest, you can enjoy ice skating and sampling regional cuisines in local restaurants. Christmas is a special time in Hungary and there are magical festivals that take place in Budapest during this time, which puts on colourful show the full religious and cultural importance of this holiday to Hungarians.
