So, my trip to Schleswig-Holstein was really amazing! Lübeck totally blew me away with its old houses and narrow streets. The Holsten Gate was so impressive - like stepping back in time! One place I absolutely have to recommend is the Wadden Sea. The vastness and nature there are simply breathtaking. There's something magical about the North Sea and its tides. I could walk on the beach for hours and just listen to the sound of the waves. In terms of food, I discovered a great fish stall in Husum. The fresh North Sea fish was to die for! But the cozy cafés in the towns also spoiled me with delicious coffee and cake. Getting around was really easy. Public transport is well connected and I explored a lot by bike. The cycle paths are well developed and there are so many beautiful routes through the countryside. What would I avoid next time? Perhaps I would spend a little more time in the smaller towns and less in the tourist hotspots. There are so many hidden gems off the main roads that I would love to discover.

Exploring Schleswig-Holstein was a fascinating experience for me. The northern German region has many beautiful coastal towns and idyllic landscapes. I was in Lübeck. The city has many old buildings and delicious marzipan treats. I walked through the narrow streets. I saw the beautiful architecture. And I wanted to try marzipan. Another great experience was a trip to the island of Sylt. The many beaches, the sea and the fresh air were very beautiful. I enjoyed walks along the coast and enjoyed the beauty of nature. The sunset over the sea was particularly beautiful. I will never forget it. I really like the landscape in Schleswig-Holstein. From the flat marshland to the rolling hills and forests in the south, there was so much to discover. I cycled over the dykes, through the green forests and over villages that you can't see. I visited the Wadden Sea in Schleswig-Holstein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I really liked the nature in the mudflats, salt marshes and tidal creeks. I liked hiking and seeing animals. My trip to Schleswig-Holstein was very nice. It gave me lots of wonderful memories and impressions. I really like the region. It is beautiful, there is a lot to see and do. I look forward to returning and discovering even more.

The vacation in Schleswig-Holstein was a wonderful experience! The Hanseatic city of Lübeck impressed with its picturesque old town and historic atmosphere. The Baltic Sea in Ostseebad Damp offered fantastic beaches and refreshing sea air. Our vacation apartment in Emkendorf was perfectly located to enjoy the tranquillity of nature. It was especially cozy when we ordered pizza from the local delivery service. All in all, it was a relaxing and varied vacation that I would love to repeat!

Highligts

Coasts, beaches, Wadden Sea

Insiders go out to eat at Pit Henningsen in Flensburg! A very old fish restaurant. The old town in Lübeck has a lot to offer

You can experience a lot in Schleswig-Holstein, on the one hand the somewhat rougher North Sea side and on the other the gentler Baltic Sea side. On the one side there are beaches with Wadden Sea and on the other sand and stone beaches. At this time of year, it is particularly worth marveling at the crocus blossom in Husum. There is a crocus blossom festival with the crowning of the crocus blossom queen. The Magisterhof restaurant in Schobüll is also highly recommended if you want a view of the sea and Nordstrand. As mentioned above, one of my favorites is the walk to Hamburger Hallig. Although the season is not yet open and the restaurant is still closed. In summer it tastes fabulous there too. Near Schleswig, you can visit the Viking village of Haitabu. This is definitely not to be missed. It is worth taking a car overall. The bus service in the countryside only runs approximately every hour. Especially the connection from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea side is not so well developed. You would have to travel via Husum or Flensburg, for example.

Highligts

Islands: (Amrum, Sylt, Hallig Hoge, Helgoland), Cities: Husum, Friedrichstadt, Schleswig, Eutin, Lübeck

Hidden gems

Walk through the salt marshes to the Hamburger Hallig. Bathing area, restaurant and the Amsink House

Destination recommendation

Wide open spaces, flocks of birds, sheep, views of the Halligen islands, freedom

Pros

Pure nature

Open width

Cons

A little cold and wet

Best for

Nature lovers

We often travel to Schleswig-Holstein to visit relatives and it's always great! Whether you want to go to the beach or take a city trip, everything is possible here. There are also plenty of shopping opportunities. Hansa Park is an amusement park that is definitely worth a visit. If you are in Lübeck, you should visit the Holsten Tor and make a detour to Lübeck's old town, where there are many great cafés. There are also many great restaurants for fish lovers, but everyone else will find something to their taste. Just be aware that if you want to go to one of the many beaches, you will need to pay a visitor's tax, but this also gives you a few small discounts with various providers.

Highligts

We don't have a travel highlight right now, but there are lots of opportunities to see, do and experience many different things here.

Hidden gems

The Holsten Gate in Lübeck, the Hansa Park in Siersksdorf, the Baltic Sea thermal baths in Scharbeutz

Destination recommendation

A destination for young and old with lots of things to do, whatever the weather.

Pros

Many opportunities to do or experience something

Many delicious restaurants

Cons

Prices in the tourist regions very expensive

Everything is even more expensive during the vacation season

Best for

Fans of city breaks

Schleswig-Holstein Holiday Lettings and Schleswig-Holstein Holiday Accommodation will not disappoint you

Schleswig-Holstein is the northernmost of Germany's federal states and is bordered by the Baltic and North Seas along its east and west coastlines and the country of Denmark to the north. The state capital is the beautiful city of Kiel, which is well worth a visit. By taking a holiday in Schleswig-Holstein holiday cottages, you will have the chance to visit the beautiful city of Lübeck, a city of seminal importance in the production of marzipan. Don't forget to take your camera! The old town has been designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical value and architectural heritage and there are many beautiful and majestic churches to visit, as well as the perhaps Lübeck's most iconic and representative landmark - the Holstentor.

Schleswig-Holstein Holiday Homes - discover the historical city of Lübeck

Other important cities you cannot miss off your Schleswig-Holstein itinerary include Neumünster and Flensburg, both of which are very popular with tourists seeking beautiful and picturesque city breaks. I The culture of Schleswig-Holstein is a rich mixture of German and Danish traditions, due to its proximity to Denmark - this mix of cultures is shown through much of the region's architecture, for example in the countryside castles and manor houses of the state and in the shared culinary delicacy, Rote Grütze, or Rødgrød in Danish, which is a kind of summer pudding made from redcurrant, blackcurrant, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, bilberries and stoned black cherries.

If you are a history enthusiast looking for historically fascinating holiday locations, don't miss a trip to the following locations:

  • Rent Aquitane Holiday Villas and visit the Musee de la Mer de Biarritz which was founded in 1935 and is one of the most popular museums in France, displaying a unique collection of different species of fish, coral reef, whale and dolphin skeletons, sharks and fishing equipment
  • Walk the route that the legendary fictional character Don Quixote walked across Castile la Mancha with Castile la Mancha Holiday Rentals
  • Rent Ischia Villa Rentals and visit the Aragonese castle, the most visited monument on the Italian island of Ischia which is one of the many testaments to its long history dating back to 474 BC.
  • Come and visit the 1,500 sites of historic interest and value in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius, with Vilnius Apartments

Venture to and explore Germany's northernmost state with Schleswig-Holstein Cottage Rentals

Additionally, there is the Kiel canal, which allows access to the two adjacent seas and provides a great sight of all the major shipping traffic passing through. There is the North Sea coast, dotted with towns and restaurants featuring German coastal fare as well as regional beers. Both Ditmarschen and Friedrichskoog offer fresh shrimp and seafood in famous restaurants. For boat lovers and sea-faring types, the region has plenty to offer as well. Alternatively, the harbour city of Hamburg is also within easy driving distance, offering at least a week's worth of sight-seeing and night time entertainment. Like any trip to Europe, a holiday to Schleswig-Holstein will have a higher airline price from overseas during the summer and early autumn but is a worth while investment if the cold isn't for you.
