We went to Phantasialand that day. Phantasialand is located in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, where there are an incredible number of large cities and you can therefore experience a lot. One of the most beautiful things in NRW is Cologne Cathedral. If you haven't seen it, you've never really been there. The Sealife in Oberhausen and the Lindt factory outlet in Aachen were also very interesting. Unfortunately, the big cities are always very crowded, but that's normal. I can only recommend a trip to NRW!

Our most recent trip took us to NRW, to the town of Arnsberg in the Sauerland region. Arnsberg has a pretty old town. We really liked the Easter fountain at the foot of the castle ruins. As we like hiking, we also visited the Sorpesee and Möhnesee reservoirs. A boat trip is possible on both lakes. Unfortunately you really need a car in this rural area, there are buses but only every hour. The larger city we visited was Münster, a very beautiful city where there are a lot of bicycles, so you have to be careful as the main means of transport is the bicycle. The harbor district is particularly beautiful with its old factory buildings. Most of them have been converted into restaurants and bars. We had dinner in a Mexican restaurant. You can eat well almost anywhere, we went to the Stadtkrug in Sundern. The food there is very reasonably priced and you can put together your own salad at an extra salad bar. The trip was short and we will definitely come back again in the summer and take advantage of the numerous water activities.

Highligts

Vacation in the Sauerland. Hiking and a visit to the zoo.

Hidden gems

Möhnesee, Sorpesee, visit to the city of Münster.

Destination recommendation

The Sauerland is ideal for nature lovers and hikers.

Pros

Lots of nature, lakes

Cons

Typical means of transportation in the country, nothing works without a car

My travel experience was very relaxed. The public transport connections are wonderful. Nowhere do you have to wait longer than 15 minutes. I liked Zollverein, the Gasometer and the zoo in Dortmund the best. We ate once at Mezzo Mezzo directly at Zollverein. There's something for everyone there and the food is really good quality. On my next trip, I would do everything exactly the same as before. Because there were no major problems on my trip.

Highligts

I would definitely recommend the Zollverein and Dortmund Zoo as travel highlights in NRW. Zollverein is in Essen and is a wonderful place to get to know what life was like underground back then. It has great guided tours and a wonderfully designed museum. Dortmund Zoo, on the other hand, has many different kinds of animals, the zoo is beautifully designed and you can spend the whole day there.

Hidden gems

As an insider tip, I would recommend the Gasometer in Oberhausen. There are always new exhibitions there. At the moment you can discover the world of the sea there.

Destination recommendation

I would recommend it because there is something for every age group to experience.

Pros

Many possibilities for activities

Good public transportation connections

Cons

Some of the city centers are no longer so beautifully designed and somewhat run-down

I'm currently on vacation in Sauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia. We go hiking a lot. The forests are really beautiful and offer lots of great hiking trails. We've also visited Lake Möhne in Arnsberg and the Sauerland Park in Hemer. The destination is particularly suitable for nature lovers and families. Unfortunately, you have to be lucky with the weather. If it rains, there aren't that many activities you can do.

North Rhine-Westphalia is a great federal state with lots of great offers and destinations to visit. This time we took our daughter to the Disney on Ice ice skating show in Düsseldorf and it was a great experience. The PSD Dome was huge and the parking garage had plenty of parking spaces. We can also highly recommend Cologne Zoo and Cologne Cathedral, which we visited afterwards and were very impressed as always.
