We took the train (TGV) from Paris to Marseille. The train station is on a hill. Our hotel was right next to it. When you come out of the station building, you have a beautiful view over the city. We knew that the harbor area was the busiest and so we set off. You only ever walk downhill, past numerous stores, squares and restaurants. There are many alleyways to the left and right, which are also very busy. The closer you get to the harbor, the more crowded it gets. Many poorer people want to sell you things to earn some money. The harbor divides the city into two areas. Both sides have beautiful sights and lots of great restaurants. You can take small ferries from one side of the harbor to the other. This is not very expensive and saves a lot of time. Marseille Cathedral and the viewpoint at the entrance to the port are very impressive. The view from the "Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde" is even more impressive. It is very easy to get there by bus. All in all, I can highly recommend Marseille.
We took the TGV from Paris to Marseille. When you come out of the station building, you are immediately struck by the enormous view over the city. It's really impressive. You then walk all the way downhill into the city and then reach the equally impressive port of Marseille.
The harbor divides the city into 2 parts. However, small ferries take you from one side to the other. This is not very expensive and you save a lot of time before walking around the harbor.
A trip in late summer is recommended, as it is not quite as hot then.

The vibrant port city in the south of France fascinates with its captivating mix of pure history and lively culture and breathtaking atmosphere. The harbor is one of the most beautiful spots in Marseille. I ate at the Laurent restaurant, very tasty there. Public transportation is very usable and cabs are also available. I would get to know the culture more.

Ask local people for the best restaurants. You should look a little further out of the city center for reasonably priced restaurants.

Marseille is probably the perfect vacation destination for most people. The highlight for me was a visit to the Saint-Jean fortress, an impressive building with a moving history. My insider tip is definitely to visit the Marseille History Museum. There are numerous inviting restaurants, such as La Poule Noire. I would recommend a stay in Marseille.

A very nice trip in and of itself. We liked the old port of Marseille and the surrounding towns best. The view from the church was also great. We mainly ate in smaller restaurants. They were very reasonably priced and delicious. Next time we would probably go in June so that the weather is even better.
One of the highlights was the arrival of the Olympic flame. The atmosphere in the city and the event were great. The Ile Vert was also great. The food is also worth mentioning.
Cassis and Chateau d Ive were definitely worth a visit. The church is also worth a visit.
The weather and people are just great.
