The whole trip was very nice. I liked the town of Umag best, which in my opinion is an absolute eye-catcher. I once went to the Africa Bar right by the sea, where I ate super tasty prawns. One of the best meals I've ever had. It's easy to get around, whether by bike or by car, you always get to your destination on time. On my next trip, I would choose an earlier departure time to avoid the traffic jam on the highway. All in all, it was a fantastic trip, which I can only recommend.

Highligts

The town of Umag was an absolute highlight. The town is very beautiful and well worth seeing. The landscape around the town was also beautiful and looks fantastic.

Hidden gems

The old town of Umag is definitely an insider tip that is well worth seeing.

Destination recommendation

I took a trip to Istria with my family. We stayed in the village of Kringa. A small place for a quiet vacation. Rovinj, Vrsar and Pazin are 30 minutes away by car. The town of Motovun is also nearby. Opposite our house was one of the best restaurants in Istria. A great recommendation!

Istria is a really great vacation destination and only a stone's throw away from Austria. The cuisine there is amazing - especially seafood and truffle dishes. But beware, in high season it can get quite expensive and the places are often overcrowded. Rovinj and Opatija are my absolute highlights - super charming and just lovely to stroll around. Pula impresses with its many Roman sights, especially the amphitheater. The Brijuni National Park is a must - the nature there is simply breathtaking. Unfortunately, Rijeka disappointed me a little. The city seems more like an industrial town and not as cozy as the other places. But I go to Istria at least once a year because it simply has so much to offer. A little tip: Traveling at the end of May or beginning of September is perfect. It's usually cheaper and there are fewer tourists, so you can enjoy the beauty of the region in a much more relaxed way.

Highligts

Istria has a lot to offer. Beautiful nature such as the Brijuni National Park, very good cuisine and mostly very clean sea water.

Hidden gems

Rovinj is the highlight of Istria for me! Very beautiful architecture and great beaches.

Destination recommendation

Its proximity to Austria (just a few hours' drive away) makes it the perfect vacation destination for me, even for weekends.

Pros

Region offers a variety of activities such as cycling, hiking, sailing and diving.

There are many historic cities with impressive sights.

Cons

In the summer months, popular tourist destinations such as Rovinj, Opatija and Pula can be overcrowded.

Prices have risen considerably in recent years
