Covering just over eight square kilometres in surface area, it has often been known as the 'Golden Island', the 'Green Island' or the 'Coral Island'. The nearest large town is Sibenik, which is just a mile or so across the sea, and gives its name to the Sibenik Archipelago of islands, of which Zlarin is one. Visitors to Zlarin villa rentals will be pleasantly surprised at the lack of traffic noise on the island, due to the fact that no cars are allowed on the island.
