Positive: A beautiful city with beautiful buildings. It is very clean. It has many beautiful churches which are also free to visit. Korenlei & Graslei nice to relax with nice atmosphere where people play music on the sidewalks for entertainment. We could easily walk and find and reach everything. Negatives: Low emission zone so please be careful where you drive. There are cameras taking pictures of you when you drive into town and it can be very expensive. Food: We only ate at McDonalds and the selection there was rather meagre. Not much choice, but most of the burgers were the same. Tip: We parked in the parking lot (Zuiderlaan) as it was free. I would advise you to drive almost all the way to the end of the parking lot if you go there, or at least so that you are close to the city limits, because the walk can be very long and tiring, especially in summer, especially for small children.
St. Nicholas Church. With beautiful architecture. Gravensteen a very old castle dating back to 844 (one of the largest moated castles in Europe). Kraanlei a beautiful promenade on the river Leie, where you have a nice atmosphere and many restaurants.
Gravensteen Castle. It has a wonderful view over the whole of Ghent

Fans of city breaks
I like Ghent. The mix of a medieval city and correspondingly ancient buildings on the one hand, and a very modern population with hip bars and restaurants thanks to the university. The food in general is also very tasty, albeit expensive. The public transport connections are very good and necessary, as there are often traffic jams in the city itself. Apart from that, the central cathedral is of course an attraction, otherwise the city offers rather fewer sights.
Many medieval buildings, churches and fries
The Vrijdagmarkt is a weekly market where you can find all kinds of exciting food
